Project 2: Mask Making

Project 2

Course Code and Name: MSJ 11211 Mass Communication

Project Name: Mask Making

Topic: Safe Road or Hell

Project Date: Spring 2019

Project Description: A group of students from the University have been involved in a project to build a mask based on the CI Theme, "Broken Window Theory". According to the idea of criminology, the presence of crime, antisocial behaviour, and civil disturbance in a city's physical environment may serve as a breeding ground for other criminal activity. The problems we see now pose a severe risk for the future. Before they escalate into national crises, we need to pinpoint the root causes and take action.

Project Justification: There are many causes of road accidents, like competition with one another, risky overtaking, nobody obeying the traffic rules and regulations, driving, sleepy mood, driving on the wrong side, and not following the line. The main problem is if anyone breaks the rules, we also follow if.

Safe Road or Hell

This time CI forum theme was ‘Broken Window Theory, ' a criminology theory that visible signs of crime, anti-social behaviour and civil disorder create an urban environment that encourages further crime and disease, including serious crimes. This theory was introduced in the 1980s. James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling introduced the idea. This theory says that something we often see from others becomes a habit and worsens because it influences others. Today's minor issues are a significant threat to tomorrow.  If something keeps people negligent today for use, it can be a danger for some time.  So, take your time to control it when you need it.  It was just an example.  There are many minor problems in our society that we will be exposed to one day due to a lack of proper surveillance.  We should take appropriate steps by identifying those problems before being established as our national problems.  Our country has many issues, including the violation of corruption and disobeying the law.

We have worked our mask with our road issues. Road accidents in the most common problem nowadays. In our country, it is the most common problem. There are many causes of road accidents like competition with one another, risky overtaking, Rough Motorcycle driving without safety gear, nobody obeying the traffic rules and regulations, driving, sleepy mood, driving on the wrong side, and not following the line. The main problem is if anyone breaks the rules, we also follow if. We are also responsible for road accidents’ only reason behind taking this topic is that we can make people aware of the roads.

Exhibition: We will show our work at ‘Shilpokola Academy’, situated in Segun bacha. We display our masks at the 1st of the row to catch the audience's attention. The show was compelling because a good number of people came to visit the exhibition. Artists, musicians, students, parents, and teachers were the spectators of the collection. Most of the audience were students. Some students did not belong to the university of liberal arts. They came here to enjoy art and creativity. If we could exhibit in other places like drik gallery, it could spread the message more.

Painting and Installation: I painted my mask in my house with an oil brush and a painting brush with acrylic colour. I used green colour. I used green and red colours for the Traffic signal, and I mainly used red for blood. I draw many images to clarify my message to the audience. I add different types of signs to clear my message.

Feedback: I took some interviews from the audience. I took a consultation with students of different departments and the faculty of the MSJ department of ULAB. I chose them because most of the audience was the students and the teachers. Our faculty knew the theme, so if they got our message, we would see that we did the right thing. We asked some questions like did you understand our message? How can we overcome this problem? We asked our interviewee these questions because we intended for everyone to understand our message and find solutions to overcome this problem. Nandita Tabassum Khan, Senior Lecturer, Department of MSJ at ULAB, Said that the mask told the whole story of what you wanted to say through the mask. One of our audiences told us we should not follow others. We should follow the traffic rules. One of our teachers told us we should follow the right things and obey the traffic laws. One of our audiences also told us people should always do the right things. They should not follow other people.

Realization: This is a fun task. It will open your mind and thinking beyond the books. We can do it at a meagre cost. My team was very supportive, and they did their work equally. I faced difficulty painting the mask because we had already put the show on the board. So, in future, we’ll paint the cover before placing it on the board. This project taught me a basic. I can learn many things from it.

Mass communication through the mask will increase your vision towards the mass public.

Conclusion: It is the best way to connect with people. We can give our message through into this. It is the best idea to communicate with the mass.

Learning and Outcome (Self-Reflection)

The plaster application did not have enough smoothness to represent the face well. I used an oil brush and acrylic paintbrush at home to make my mask. The traffic light is green and red because I used those colours, and red is the most prominent colour in the blood. To make my meaning more obvious, I use a variety of indicators. Almost everything was executed smoothly and according to schedule. We did a lot as a team and had a blast doing it.
